Hooked on Sudoku

On Sunday, June 12, Politiken started having a daily Sudoku puzzle. I didn’t quite know what to make of it, but Monday night I sat down with it, and I guess I got hooked.

A Sudoku is a square of nine fields, each subdivided in 9 smaller fields. From the beginning some of the small fields contain numbers (appearantly, the mark of a “hand-made” Sudoku is that the fields with numbers are set in a symmetric fashion). The object of the Sudoku is to add numbers to finally fill the whole board. There is one simple rule, however. Each row, column, and group of nine fields must contain the numbers from 1 through 9. On a Sudoku board the groups of nine small fields are normally highlighted.

The game requires only knowledge of the rules and a portion of logic. The only annoyance is that I can’t see if a Sudoku is hard or easy by looking at it. It doesn’t take long, however, to figure out what it is. The only annoyance is that we only get Politiken in the weekends, so I have to wait until tomorrow to get my next fix.

    Hi,

If you’re really hooked and need more than one a week, you could try my site:

    http://www.sudoku-san.com

It has four graded puzzles every day, an online workpad and ‘intelligent’ assistance – if you ask for help, it gives proper explanations about what you can do next. You can also print the puzzle out, if you prefer just to scribble.

It’s a fairly new site so all feedback appreciated,

    thanks,
    Alastair

I am addicted to Sudoku! I made an inventory of methods for solving even the most difficult Sudoku. Start with looking for duo’s, it’s an eye opener!
    Check http://www.sudokuhints.nl/en/ for details.

    Good luck!

I’ve let a bunch of spams on sudoku “slip” through, but only since they’ve kept to the subject. I guess I’ll allow them for now since more Sudoku links are good. Or maybe I should just delete them all and post the links instead…
