Varmefri

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

In Denmark we have a term, Varmefri. It literally means heat free, and means you get time off when it’s too hot. I guess it’s the opposite of snow days. I’ve only ever seen it done in grade school, but everyone knows the term and what it means.

Anyway, Varmefri neatly explains why it’s been so quiet around here.

The weather in Denmark the next few days

I’ve always been a very restless person, with this weather I simply cannot sit still and have to get out and do stuff. It also means I’ve done some kind of exercise pretty much every night after work for the past month.

Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s a shower to be completed so I can get outside and enjoy the sun. Maybe we’ll rent a canoe and go sailing on Lyngby Sø, maybe we’ll just go somewhere to get some ice cream. Can’t wait.

Relevant Comment Spam

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

Usually the comment spam I receive is a weird mixture of sex and porn spiced up with different kinds of medication. On some entries, however, the comment spam stays pretty much on target. In my specific case I am of course referring to my sudoku entry. There are comments on it that refer to sudoku sites around the web. These sites of course profit from visitors, and that’s why I refer to them as comment spam.

I haven’t been very consistent in my handling. As you can see there are still some of these comments on the entry, but I have also deleted a handful. Have any of you experienced this kinds of spam? And how did you deal with it? Did you delete indiscriminately, or leave it so other might get something out of the links left behind?

Picnic at Frilandsmuseet

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

Just north of Lyngby lies Frilandsmuseet (sorry, link in Danish), an open air museum where old houses from around the country have been rebuilt to preserve our historical heritage. As the only sensible thing he’s ever done, our cultural minister has waived the entrance fee to the national museums in Denmark. Combined with the beautiful weather we decided it was time for a picnic.

We texted pretty much everyone we knew and invited them to a picnic in the spirit of “if noone shows up it’ll be ok, but the more the merrier”. Turned out noone showed, but with the beautiful weather and nice food we couldn’t really care less.

For our picnic lunch Susan baked carrot buns and we made the best grilled sandwiches ever. We got some small steaks, asparagus, tomato, red onion, and chees and fried all the ingredients on the grill pan. The sandwich was assembled with a thin layer of cottage cheese liquified with basil, and the ingredients above. It tasted awesome.

After eating our lunch at Frilandsmuseet, we walked around a bit and looked at the old houses. When we left we went down to Lyngby sø (the local lake) and bought ice cream. Sat in the sun with our feet in the water and ate it. Overall a perfect day.
