100 mile August

I have written about Nike+ before, and I still think one of the best aspects is the challenges.

This month I took part in one particular challenge called “100-mile August”. Basically the challenge is to run 100 miles (160.93 km) during the month of August.

To make a long story short, I made it:

Finished 100 miles in August!!!

I had several long runs during this period. On Wednesday, for instance, I took only my ipod and running shoes (and clothes) and just ran where my feet took me. Ended up being almost 15 km. After that run I was missing no more than 3-4 km. Unfortunately, I got sick Friday and was lying in bed with a runny nose and sore throat.

Well, I couldn’t let my 157 km go to waste, so I suited up and went running. The beginning especially was hard, but afterwards I felt much better. The run that put me over the 100 mile limit was 5.68 km run at an excruciatingly slow pace. But I got it done:

The "winning" run

During this month I have run all distances between 2.55 km which I ran quite fast on August 4, to 20.92 km which was an awesome run a week ago.

After running the data through Google docs I have a little bit of additional useless information. During August I ran a total of 15 runs which amounted to 163.53 km or an average of 10.90 km per run. I spent 15 hours 6 minutes 13 seconds on the road averaging 1 hour 24 seconds every time I was out at an average pace of 5 minutes 30 seconds per km. In total I used 13,939 KCal running, which ended up as an average of 931 KCal per run.

September will see more focus on speed, but distance is liberating and I still want to run a marathon within the next two years.
