Different

Apple, Inc. has made an art of not talking about its products. Fans, journalists, and rumormongers who love it or love to hate it have long had to practice a sort of Kremlinology to gather the merest hints as to what is coming next out of Cupertino.

Different @ Technology Review

Very interesting article about the way Apple designs their products. An interesting read for anyone who care about design, Apple, or both.

Nike+ Map It

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

Nike has just added Map It functionality to the the Nike+ website.

Nike+ Map It

This functionality allows you to draw routes and assign them to your runs.

I have drawn my first route: Rundt om Jægersborg which is one of my “regular” routes. I must admit I get very bored running the same route too often (more than twice in a month), so talking about regular for me is a bit of a stretch. However, I feel this makes me qualified to rate the ease of the mapping tool since I’ll be using it a lot, and I’ve tried many tools already.

Nike+iPod review

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

After reading Cabel from panic software recounting his experiences with the Nike+iPod sports kit I thought to myself, “I have to get me one of those.” I think Cabel would be a great salesman. After discovering the Nike + iPod group on Flickr, I couldn’t wait to get the kit, and told myself that if I didn’t get it for Christmas I would have to buy it myself. As luck would have it, I did get it for Christmas, and I’ve been “playing” with it since.

Comment spam, en masse

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Comment spam has, unfortunately, been a part of blogging for me pretty much from the start. It was the reason I changed the wordpress with it’s easier comment administration interface.

Lately however, it has become extreme. Yesterday I received 541 pieces of comment spam! If that is not extreme I don’t know what is, especially for a site with maybe 100-200 unique hits a day, the majorite of whom are viewing one page.

The high number of comment spam has also highlighted another problem. I have all new comments (from people who haven’t commented before) go into the moderation queue where I then delete them before they turn up on my page. Loading a page with 515 comments (I had deleted some during the day yesterday) takes a looooooooong time. In fact it takes so long that the Textile 2 plugin I use for formatting my entries and comments times out… I actually have to turn off the plugin to delete all the comment spam.

I guess it’s about time I start thinking about upgrading Wordpress and looking into comment spam plugins.

Found this one through digg

Flickr Related Tag Browser

It illustrates associations very well, and in two seconds I went from Mustang over Pony via Snow to USA. I could probably spend hours playing with it, but I guess I should do some work.

Up and running

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

I’ve been very busy which explains why I haven’t update my hard disk entry. I have, however, update my hard drive. I got the replacement drive before the weekend, but was still waiting for the external drive so I could try and back up my old data. “Unfortunately”, I was home sick Monday (mild stomach flu) which meant I was home when the drive arrived. Good thing too since I don’t know when else I would have been able to get it.

Hard drive on the fritz

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

I didn’t use my powerbook much during Saturday, but had several things planned for Sunday. Before we went to bed I set it to stream music to our stereo using iTunes over our Airport Express as I have done many times before. Sunday Susan had to get up early, before she left, however, I noticed that the radio was playing. I thought it was weird, but thought nothing of it. As a passing remark when she left Susan said that the powerbook had made weird noises and had frozen, she had turned it off. Oh shit.

The MacMac?

If the PowerBook changes its name to the MacBook Pro, what will the PowerMac become? The MacMac Pro? The Mac Pro?

The Optimus keyboard

Friday, July 15th, 2005

I just found a link from Kottke. It is the Optimus keyboard.

I have dreamed of a keyboard like this for years. Each key of the Optimus keyboard is a small screen, this means that you can show your current keyboard layout on the keys (be it Qwerty or Dvorak). Of greater interest, however, is the ability to have the keys show commands for your current application. You can show the keys that correspond to the tools in Photoshop, or any other application for that matter. This is my geeky wet dream.
